Our Mission
Encounter … Grow … Serve … Share
These four words describe the driving force behind all we do at First Baptist Church of Calvert City.
We Encounter God through authentic and engaging corporate worship as well as during our times of private or personal worship.
We Grow with other believers as we study the Word of God together, as we pursue personal spiritual maturity, and as we build strong relationships among the community of God’s people.
We Serve each other, our community, and around the world through an intentional commitment to meaningful ministry and service.
We Share with others as we openly speak to the life-changing power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Becoming fully committed followers of Jesus Christ ... making a Kingdom impact on Calvert City.
Our Church Covenant
Having been led by the Spirit of God to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and on the public profession of our faith, and having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now in the presence of God and this assembly, solemnly and joyfully enter into this covenant with one another, as one body in Christ called First Baptist Church of Calvert City.
By the power of the Holy Spirit we commit to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember one another in prayer; to aid one another in sickness and distress; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation and mindful of the call of our Savior to do so without delay; to diligently pursue the advancement of this church body in knowledge, holiness and faithfulness; to promote its prosperity and spiritual maturity; and to support its worship, ordinances, personal and corporate discipline, and its beliefs.
We commit to contribute willingly and regularly to the support of the ministry of this church through regular and sacrificial financial support, to minister to the needs of this body and of the local community, to carefully and faithfully manage the resources God provides to us, and to the spread of the gospel through all nations in accordance with the Great Commission Call of Jesus Christ.
We commit to faithfully pursue family and personal devotions, to bring up our children in the teachings and examples of the Bible and to seek the salvation of our loved ones, friends, and acquaintances.
We commit to live out our faith with careful consideration of our witness to those around us; to be just in our dealings, faithful to our commitments and exemplary in our lifestyle choices; to avoid all forms of gossip and idle chatter about people, and unkind vengeful remarks about others, and anger that comes from offended egos or bitterness; to seek God’s help in abstaining from all drugs, food, drink, and practices which might bring harm to the witness of the church body or jeopardize our own or another person’s faith; and to be intentional in our efforts to advance the Kingdom of our Savior.
We also agree that when we move from this church body, we will, as soon as possible, unite with another body of like-minded believers where we can continue to carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God's Word.

What We Believe
At First Baptist Church we believe that each local church is a God-ordained and autonomous fellowship of baptized individuals who have united with Jesus Christ as their personal savior and are on mission with Him as outlined in the Great Commission call of Matt 28:19-20: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (NASU)
As an Autonomous Church we believe that God has established that each church is individually accountable to both God and its membership. Each church is organized, led, and extends fellowship and cooperation independent of the dictates of any outside body. However, as a church based on the historic Christian faith we believe that there are certain core elements that are foundational to any Christian body: 1) God is one and the only one living and true God. The eternal triune God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being. 2) Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God and because of His substitutionary death on the cross, He made provision for the redemption of men and women from sin. 3) The Bible is written by men divinely inspired and is God's revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction with God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter.
These core beliefs transcend denominational boundaries and provide the basis for cooperative relationships of fellowship, ministry, and service.
As a Southern Baptist Church we believe strongly in the distinctives of the historic Baptist faith. These distinctives are the basis for our intimate cooperation and participation with The Southern Baptist Convention, the Kentucky Baptist Convention, the Purchase Area Baptist Association, and with other Southern Baptist organizations and churches..
The Baptist Faith and Message. As cooperative members of the Southern Baptist Convention, we hold to the essential beliefs as outlined in the Baptist Faith and Message, dated June 14, 2000. Based upon God’s Holy Word, First Baptist Church Calvert City members unite themselves according to certain essential beliefs guided by the following three convictions:
In the essential beliefs – we have unity. [Be] diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.
(Ephesians 4:3-6, NASU).
In the non-essential beliefs – we have liberty. Now accept the one who is weak in faith, but not for the purpose of passing judgment on his opinions. Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls; and he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand. So then each one of us will give an account of himself to God. The faith which you have, have as your own conviction before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves. (Romans 14:1,4,12,22, NASU)
In all our beliefs – we show charity. If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing. Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part; but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away. (1 Corinthians 13:1-10, NASU)
